With the Fusion 360 addin from Cadasio you can import your CAD files directly to a new project or toolbox. You can also update existing projects when the design changes, avoiding rework We would recommend you have Fusion 360 shut down before the installation take place.
Check out our Trust Centre for a full overview of how we work with your data.
Download the latest addin from the Fusion app store. The addin comes in two varieties, one for Microsoft Windows and one for Mac OS, so make sure you pick the appropriate one for your system.
Once the download has finished run it. You may be able to do this from within your browser otherwise you will need to find the downloaded file. On a Windows system the default will be in your download folder (C:\Users\UserName\Downloads). We would recommend you have Fusion 360 shut down before the installation takes place. Double click to run the file and the installer will appear.
Follow the prompts making sure you are happy with the installation location. The install should only take a minute or so. Once finished click close, to close the installer.
Start Fusion 360, the addin should have automatically been added in and become active, however its worth checking. On the ribbon at the top of your screen goto Tools - Addins - Scripts and Addins and make sure Cadasio is on.
Open the file you wish to upload. This can be a full assembly or single part. On your ribbon menu at the to of the screen go to Tools - Addins and click the cadasio icon and the addin interface will appear. If you didn't enter your login details during installation, you will be asked to log in. If you haven't registered with us yet, create an account to be able to continue.
Confirm you are on the Create tab of the addin interface. Set a name and click Create! The addin converts your files locally and then sends these converted files encrypted to our servers. More information about this process can be found in our Trust Centre.
Its worth noting that on the advanced tab of the addin there are various options that will affect your import. With these settings you can choose whether to include hidden and surface models with your upload. By default, the mesh quality is determined by your screen quality, which for most people is sufficient. However if you want more control you can set the mesh quality yourself. Please note, whilst a higher quality mesh will result in smoother surfaces, depending on your geometry you may not actually be able to tell the difference, but the file size will have increased, which will have an impact on the load time of your projects.
If you work with multibody parts, such as weldments, then you can choose whether to bring those in as a single part, in which case they will select as a single unit and only have one set of properties for the entire part. Or you can choose to create an assembly from the bodies, in which case each body will behave as if it was its own part.
Access Keys can be created from within the Cadasio dashboard. This allows you to have projects created via the addin, but without having to use your account details to log in. More information is discussed in this video.
We convert your CAD files into mesh display data, which is ultimately a lot of triangles that gives us a "3D picture". A mesh does not distinguish between different features, such as faces or holes. The sketches and features used to create the model are of no interest to us. The result file is also a different scale to the original.
